Television is television, and the more useful line comes from the trade: Joshua Barr, who owns The Locale and West Side Tavern, put Sunny Acre on his list in Glasgow's industry guide for "their coffee, cakes and sandwiches" (The Glasgow Wrap). Three categories rather than one dish is what a regular says. It sits on the quieter end of Pollokshaws Road in Strathbungo and works as a breakfast room.

Order this / avoid

• Order: the mackerel on rye. The peach focaccia sandwich if it is on, with the courgette salad. Finish at the pastry counter, and take a flat white with it.
• Avoid: arriving mid afternoon and expecting the whole board. One Sunday visitor got there late and was down to coffee and cake.

• Timing: breakfast-led, and worth getting to early. No opening hours are published by the venue or by anyone else, so check before you set out.
• Booking: walk-in. There is no website; the venue trades through its socials.
• Hygiene: the Food Hygiene Information Scheme records Improvement Required, the failing tier of the Scottish scheme, from an inspection on 28 July 2022. Nobody has re-inspected in the four years since, which makes it an old finding rather than a current one, and it is stated here rather than left out. ref

could-visit — A Strathbungo corner cafe that earns its place on one strong piece of evidence and one piece of colour. The evidence is Joshua Barr, who owns The Locale and West Side Tavern, naming it in Glasgow's industry guide: 'I love Sunny Acre for their coffee, cakes and sandwiches.' Three things, which is how somebody who actually goes describes a place. The colour is that Kelly MacDonald brought Phil Rosenthal here for the Scotland episode of Somebody Feed Phil and Mary Wan put out a courgette salad, a peach focaccia sandwich and the mackerel on rye that MacDonald orders. Worth knowing, not evidence about cooking. The only writer to publish on the food arrived on a Sunday afternoon, found the counter picked over and could vouch for a mellow flat white and a spiced apple slice that tasted homemade. That is a good neighbourhood cafe and this ruling says so plainly. Separately, the premises has carried an FHIS Improvement Required since July 2022 with no re-inspection in four years, which is disclosed and keeps it out of a first three.
