Le Du
In 2023 Le Du became the first Thai-run restaurant named No.1 on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants, ten years after Thitid "Ton" Tassanakajohn opened it on a Silom alley; by 2026 the same list has it at No.36, and the interesting question is what you get between those two numbers.
Why go
Chef Ton studied at the Culinary Institute of America and cooked at Eleven Madison Park and Jean Georges in New York, then came home in 2013 to cook, in the words of World's 50 Best, food "created exclusively with Thai ingredients cooked with French-European techniques." The name is a Thai pun: it reads French but is the word for season, and the four- or six-course menu turns over with them. A Michelin star has held since the 2019 guide by the venue's own accounting, through the 2026 edition per Time Out's star list. Ton is also a certified sommelier, and the pairing list is his.
Order this / avoid
- Order: whichever length you book, the khao kluk kapi arrives: a butterflied Tapi river prawn, grilled, over a risotto of two northern Thai rices seasoned with shrimp paste. Time Out: "River prawn remains the one constant on the menu, served with brown rice risotto."
- Avoid: loose plans; changes inside 72 hours cost B5,000 a head. And calibrate expectations to 2026, when the room reads as an established star rather than the ranking's frontrunner.

- Note: "a top 50 in the world"
Verdict (Chef Jeff ladder)
should-visit — The first Thai-run restaurant ever named Asia's best, a Michelin star held across seven guides, and a signature river prawn that has anchored the menu since the ranking's peak. The craft and the wine program are intact and the tasting is priced below its peers, but the list trajectory since 2023 says the vanguard has moved to Sorn, Potong, and Nusara, so it earns the detour rather than the plan-around. Walkable from the Surawong base, which sweetens it.
