64 Goodge Street
Stuart Andrew opened Portland in 2015 and has cooked for the same group ever since, and at 64 Goodge Street he spends that experience on sauces: bisque poured over crab ravioli, sea bass with mussels in saffron, partridge with boudin blanc and quince (Good Food Guide).
Why go
The restaurant opened in August 2023 as the Woodhead Restaurant Group's third Fitzrovia room, after Portland and Clipstone, and took a Michelin star in the 2025 Great Britain and Ireland selection announced that February (MICHELIN Guide). The cooking is French bistro repertoire held to a much higher tolerance than the format usually gets, which shows in the small things: the Good Food Guide's inspector counted "tiny carrot and courgette brunoise, bites of green bean, poached fresh coco beans" in a single soupe au pistou. Tables sit close together with an open kitchen behind them, and the wine list starts at £8 a glass (Good Food Guide). Grace Dent reviewed it in the Guardian within weeks of opening (Guardian).
Order this / avoid
- Order: the soupe au pistou when it is on, the escargot, which Time Out described as "aristocratic Scotch eggs," and the tarte au citron with bergamot Chantilly to close (Time Out, Good Food Guide).
- Avoid: the aligot. Time Out's reviewer found it "lacked its signature elasticity," and a mash whipped with young cheese either pulls into ropes or there is no reason to order it.

Verdict (Chef Jeff ladder)
should-visit — Stuart Andrew has been cooking in the Woodhead group since Portland opened in 2015, and 64 Goodge Street is him doing French classics with the saucing taken seriously: bisque under crab ravioli, sea bass with mussels in saffron, partridge with boudin blanc and quince. A Michelin star followed in the 2025 selection, eighteen months after opening. It is a very good version of a familiar thing rather than a category of one, which is where the rung stops.
