Arthouse Glasgow

My pick for best Italian. Soon for Michelin fame. Hard to get into and service can be spotty.

Jeff's note

Celentano's

Dean and Anna Parker won a Michelin Bib Gourmand within six months of opening Celentano's in 2021, held it through four guides, and in June 2026 moved the whole operation from Cathedral Square to a 60-cover room in the Arthouse hotel on Bath Street.

Why go

Parker's cooking is Italian in shape and fermentation-led in method. He rose from sous to head chef opening Robin Gill's The Dairy in London, ran Darby's as executive chef, co-founded Sorella, and staged at Copenhagen's Amass; the habit of squeezing everything from an ingredient, fennel cooked in its own ferment liquor, miso worked into the bread dough, came with him (Great British Chefs). The restaurant makes its bread, pasta, charcuterie, gelato and cultured butter in-house and cooks nose-to-tail over embers (DRAM Scotland). The Scotsman's Scran Awards named it Scottish Restaurant of the Year in 2025, and the 2026 guide's missing Bib reflects the winter closure for the move, nothing the kitchen did.

Order this / avoid

  • Order: pasta first; Michelin's inspectors wrote of the original room that "pasta takes the lead" and to "do yourself a favour and order the terrific beef fat potato strati" as a side ref. Gaby Soutar's table called the linguine with squid, black chilli and kombu butter their "best dish of the year" ref. At Bath Street the early menu runs crispy chicken skins with turnip and kombu ketchup, Mossgiel ricotta agnolotti, and the Celentano's affogato with malted barley gelato (Larder).
  • Avoid: navigating to the old Cathedral Square address; the original closed at the end of 2025 when the building went up for sale.

What locals & experts say

  • Michelin Guide (through 2025): Bib Gourmand from 2022; "Top Scottish produce features heavily in the consummately seasoned Italian dishes, where pasta takes the lead." ref
  • The Scotsman, Gaby Soutar: 9/10 for food; the squid linguine was "super savoury soul food, which transformed squid into the oxen of the sea." ref
  • Scran Awards, The Scotsman (2025): Scottish Restaurant of the Year. ref
  • SLTN (2025): the move was forced by the Cathedral House sale, announced December 2025. ref

Good to know

  • The move: open at Arthouse Glasgow, 129 Bath Street, since 24 June 2026; the room seats 60-plus, nearly double the old site, which should ease Jeff's hard-to-book complaint.
  • Booking: reserve via celentanosglasgow.com; new-site hours were not yet published at verification, check before going.
  • Timing note: Commonwealth Games crowds are in town summer 2026; book further ahead than usual.

Jeff's take (his words)

  • The verdict: "My pick for best Italian. Soon for Michelin fame."
  • The caveat: "Hard to get into and service can be spotty."

Verdict (Chef Jeff ladder)

must-visit — Plan around it. Jeff (first-hand, 2026-07-30) rates it above 111 by Modou: an ingredient-led Italian kitchen with a wine list bought with a point of view, run at a level the city has few answers to.

Order

  • Mossgiel ricotta agnolotti, or whatever hand-rolled shape is on that week
  • Beef-fat potato strati, layered and crisped, as a side
  • Crispy chicken skins with turnip and kombu ketchup
  • Celentano's affogato with malted barley gelato

Good to know

  • Booking: recommended
  • Timing: bookings-essential
  • Best for: dinner, date, groups-ok
  • Avoid: Navigating to the Cathedral Square original. It moved to Bath Street in June 2026, and the Bib Gourmand lapsed over that closure
