Chef Tam's garden-to-table tasting menus

Jeff's note

Baan Tepa Culinary Space

Chudaree "Tam" Debhakam turned her family's house in Wang Thonglang into a 12-seat chef's table in 2020, took a Michelin star in the 2023 selection and a second in 2024, becoming the first Thai woman to lead a two-star kitchen, and holds a Green Star for running the place off its own urban farm.

Why go

One correction first: the house is closed for renovation until August 26, 2026, with a July pop-up off-site, so time any visit for after reopening. The reason to bother is the compound itself, which Top Tables 2026 describes as grown from that ancestral-house chef's table into "a sprawling urban farm, cafe, and elite fine-dining restaurant," naming Tam its Best Chef and calling her progression one "from pioneer, to innovator, to the city's Thai food ambassador." The garden is the technique: seasonal produce and herbs come from the property and small Thai growers, kitchen scraps get fermented back into sauces, and Michelin's Green Star, retained in the 2026 guide, certifies the loop. Her training ran through the International Culinary Center in New York before she came home to cook Thai.

Order this / avoid

  • Order: the tasting menu, THB 6,200 per person before 10% service and 7% VAT at pre-renovation pricing, in one of three evening seatings. The menu tracks the garden, so treat the courses as a season report rather than a fixed list.
  • Avoid: turning up before the late-August 2026 reopening, and assuming the casual cafe tier of the compound is the starred experience; the tasting room is the ticket.

What locals & experts say

  • Michelin Guide Thailand: one star in the 2023 selection, two from 2024, "the world's first female Thai chef" at two-star level, plus the Green Star; both distinctions held on the 2026 lists. ref
  • Top Tables 2026 (BK Magazine, Best Chef Award): Baan Tepa began as a "humble 12-seat chef's table in a previously abandoned ancestral house." ref
  • Asia's 50 Best (2025): Tam named Asia's Best Female Chef, logged alongside her Michelin Young Chef Award 2023.

Good to know

  • Timing: temp-closed for renovation until August 26, 2026. Pre-renovation rhythm was dinner seatings at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm, closed Monday and Tuesday; expect changes at reopening.
  • Booking: essential, via reservation@baantepabkk.com; reopening reservations to be announced on the venue's channels.
  • Getting there: the Wang Thonglang and Ramkhamhaeng area, a serious ride from central Sukhumvit or Silom; budget taxi time both ways.

Verdict (Chef Jeff ladder)

must-visit — Two Michelin stars plus a Green Star, held into the 2026 guide, cooked by the first Thai woman to reach that level, in her family's house with the garden doing real menu work rather than decoration. The craft, the award weight, and the can't-get-it-elsewhere setting all clear the bar; Top Tables 2026 just named her best chef in the city. The caveat is timing, since the house is dark until late August 2026, so this is a plan-around for trips after reopening and a skip before it.

Order

  • The seasonal tasting menu, THB 6,200 per person before 10% service and 7% VAT
  • Whatever the Tepa garden is producing; the urban farm feeds the menu

Good to know

  • Booking: essential
  • Timing: dinner-only, bookings-essential, closed-mon
  • Best for: dinner, date, big-night
  • Avoid: Showing up before reopening; the house is closed for renovation until August 26, 2026, with a July pop-up running off-site; Confusing the tiers of the compound; the cafe and garden are casual, the tasting room is the two-star ticket
